COROT is a mission of the Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES) which counts with the participation of ESA, and the name of which stands for 'Convection, Rotation and planetary Transits'. The goal of this mission was to research the interior of stars through asteroseismology, the technique of probing stellar interiors by studying the acoustic waves that ripple through the surface of stars. COROT also searched for exoplanets, which can be detected when they pass in front of the star they are orbiting, thus dimming its light: a technique of detection called “transit”. [+]
