FPI

The FPI grants are awarded by the Spanish Government for a duration of 48 months to graduates wishing to pursue a PhD degree associated to specific R+D projects among those financed by the ''Plan Nacional de I+D+i''. The fees of master and PhD courses, as well as stays in R+D centers, are also financed by this program.

FPU

The FPU program seeks to promote the training of PhD students through the awarding of grants for the realization of a PhD degree in any area of knowledge, in order to enable their future enrolment in the Spanish system of scientific formation and research.

Grants are awarded by the Spanish Government for a maximum period of 48 months. Grants also provide funding for short stays of 2 to 4 months in other Spanish or foreign centers and for temporary transfers of the scholarship abroad for a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 months.

FI

The FI program is funded by the Generalitat de Catalunya and seeks to aid universities in recruiting research personnel and in promoting quality research, by awarding graduate students a grant to pursue a PhD degree within a research group which develops a financed, research and development project. The contract has a duration of a year, extendable for a maximum of two more years.

APIF (UNIVERSITY OF BARCELONA)

The aim of the APIF scholarships is to award grants for a duration of 36 months to students enrolled in an official PhD program of the University of Barcelona, in order to promote the training of the awardees as researchers and their formation in teaching methodology through their collaboration in support tasks for the teaching staff of the UB departments. Upon the signature of the contract, is mandatory that the student is enroled in a UB PhD Program

JUAN DE LA CIERVA - Formación

The "Juan de la Cierva-Formación" contracts are two-year contracts funded by the Spanish government. They are aimed at hiring new researchers who wish to obtain postdoctoral training at a university other than the one where they received their PhD.

Industrial Doctorates

These grants last up to four years and cofund the contracts for predoctoral research personnel
whose objective is to develop their PhD in the industrial sector (industrial research or
experimental development project) At the time of signing the contract they must have been
accepted on a PhD programme.

"La Caixa" INPhINIT Grants

INPhINIT is a doctoral fellowship programme funded by ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation devoted to attracting international Early-Stage Researchers to Spanish research centres awarded with Severo Ochoa or María de Maeztu distinctions, such as the ICCUB. It offers an attractive and competitive environment for conducting research of excellence.

"La Caixa" Doctoral studies at Spanish universities or research centres

”la Caixa” Banking Foundation offers a fellowship programme for young researchers who wish to earn a doctoral degree at any university or research centre in Spain. The call for applications covers all areas of knowledge and is aimed at all individuals who fulfil the requirements to be admitted to the doctoral degree programme, provided that they have not previously enrolled in the doctoral studies applied for

Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions applicable to PhD students must by applied for through a host university or institution. If you are interested in any of these, please contact the ICCUB staff and ask about opportunities.

There are currently four types of MSC Actions:

1. Innovative Training Networks (ITN): For PhD candidates

2. Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE): For PhD Candidates, Postdocs, or Managerial and Technical Staff. The goal of this action is to support international and cross sector collaboration.

3. Co-funding of regional, national, and international programs (COFUND): The goal of this action is to encourage recruitment on a regional, national, and international scale, and to help develop the careers and mobility of researchers.

     A. Co-funding of doctorate programs (for young researchers)
    B. Co-funding of fellowship programs (for researchers with experience)

4. Individual Fellowships (IF): For researchers who already have four years of full time research experience.
European Fellowships: One to two years of funding to carry out research in Europe.
Global Fellowships: Two to three years of funding to carry out research abroad with the last year mandatory in Europe.
