Weak decay of the hypertriton with effective field theory

In this talk I will describe the weak decay of the hypertriton, the lightest hypernucleus, within the formalism of effective field theory (EFT). An effective field theory is a systematic approximation to some underlying dynamics valid at a certain energy scale. First I will briefly introduce this concept in the context of the strong nuclear force. Then I will explain how it can be applied in the description of the weak decay of the hypertriton, focusing in the construction of an EFT for the non-mesonic weak decay transition, LambdaN-->NN. Results for the mesonic and non-mesonic decay rates without the consideration of final state interactions will be shown.
