4th FERO meeting

institut de Ciéncies del COSMOS, Universitat de Barcelona

Martí i Franquès, 1, 08028 Barcelona, Spain

8-9 September 2010

Why?

This is the 4th in a series of meetings of the FERO (Finding Extreme Relativistic Object) project. This project aims at a systematic analysis of well defined samples of high quality X-ray observations of nearby X-ray bright AGN to study the signature of X-ray illuminated relativistic accretion disks in the spectral and timing domain. Well defined sample is the key concept here. We refrain from extrapolating general conclusions on the properties of the underlying Seyfert and quasars populations from sparse, ill-defined samples, or even from the painstakingly detailed analysis of individual "archetypal" sources.

A list of papers published in the framework of the FERO project is available here.

When, where?

We plan a 1.5 days meeting, starting on September 8, in the morning, and closing at early afternoon on September 9. The meeting will be hosted by the Institut de Ciéncies del Cosmos, Universitat de Barcelona (ICCUB). The venue is the Seminar Room (N-724) on 7th floor of the new wing of the Faculty of Physics and Chemistry building, University of Barcelona, where ICCUB is physically located. The detailed instruction on how to reach ICCUB can be found here. It is recommended to read the part on how to navigate yourself inside the building to the Physics Faculty. The nearest metro station is Palau Reial (L3) and the bus stop, Av. Diagonal-Palau Reial. See also Useful Links.

The Barcelona International Airport is a major international hub, with connection with most airports in Europe. Barcelona is already easy to reach by speed trains from Madrid and France.

Unfortunately we cannot provide you with any support with accommodation. There is no shortage of hotels in Barcelona, however.

Support

Limited financial support will be available, especially for young scientist. It will be in the form of accommodation reimbursement and airfare in exceptional cases.

Social event

The social dinner will be held on Wednesday, 8 September, starting at 21.30 at Restaurante Barceloneta. Financial support by the ICCUB is gratefully acknowledged.
