Black Funnels are stationary black hole solutions in AdS space whose horizons are out of equilibrium. They where first motivated in the context of AdS/CFT as an option of a gravity dual for a strongly coupled plasma in a black hole background. The horizon of this solutions interpolates between a string like shape that reaches the boundary and planar black hole in the bulk. The solution describes a stationary heat flow between two infinite heat reservoirs. So far this solutions have been studied analytically in D=3 and D=4. In higher dimensions (needed for the description of a 3+1 plasma) numerical solutions have also been studied in D=5.

In this talk I will give an exact analytic description of the steady flow of a black string into a planar horizon. The event horizon is out of equilibrium and provides a simple exact instance of a ‘flowing black funnel’ in any dimension D ≥ 5. It is also an approximation to a smooth intersection between a black string and a black hole, in the limit in which the black hole is much larger than the black string thickness.
