The recently introduced C-theory provides a unified framework to study metric, metric-affine and more general theories of gravitation. They emerge from an intuive starting point that allows a nontrivial relation of the spacetime curvature and the connection. We will discuss, from this generalized viewpoint, the implications of modified gravity to the Solar system experiments, astrophysics and cosmology.
