It is widely accepted that Active Galactic Nuclei and Galactic Black Hole systems share a common engine (a mass-accreting black hole), which scales primarily by mass. In this talk I will review the observational evidence (and corresponding shortcomings) in favour of this "black hole unified scenario" in three domains: X-ray timing, broad band Spectral Energy Distribution, and reflection in the relativistic regime. In all these fields the contribution of large area, high-resolution, high-throughput missions in the last decade has been paramount.
