The first confirmed detection of an exoplanet orbiting a main-sequence star was made in 1995 when a giant planet was found by radial velocity measurements in a four-day orbit around the nearby star 51 Pegasi. Since then, thousands of new exoplanets have been confirmed opening a new scenario in which to test planetary formation and evolution theories, put constraints on habitability conditions or, test models of planetary interiors and atmospheres. In this talk, I will review the current status of exoplanetary statistics as well as introduce some of the current theories and open questions in the field.

I will also present the most recent results of the TFAW-survey, a search for new exoplanet candidates in the Kepler satellite extended mission (K2) data. As well as discuss its contribution to different areas of interest in exoplanetary science.
