Abstract: A crucial component of astrobiology is the study of exoplanet habitability. While astrophysical models offer valuable predictions about the potential conditions on exoplanet surfaces, these should be paired with biological experiments for a more accurate assessment of the habitability of exoplanet environments. This seminar will illustrate how the study of Earth’s microorganisms can be integrated with astrophysical research in a synergistic manner, providing important insights into life’s boundaries and improving our knowledge of habitability beyond our own planet. My research embodies this interdisciplinary approach, with a focus on the habitability of planets orbiting M-dwarf stars. By creating simple yet adaptable models, I examined the conditions of potentially habitable exoplanets. The developed models were subsequently used to inform microbiological experiments with a model organism, providing a clearer view of the potential for life in these settings. This method not only connects astrophysics and microbiology but also paves the way for future astrobiological research, underscoring the necessity for a comprehensive understanding of life’s resilience in the universe.
