It has been shown that the large number limit of dimension (Large D limit) is a good approximation to capture the analytical (or semi-analytical, if not) properties of black holes in higher dimensions. The emergent hierarchy at large D introduces separate dynamics on the horizon. The softer one, so called decoupled dynamics, is now well described in the form of “large D effective theory”. However, only the few are studied about the steeper one, so called non-decoupled dynamics. One of the non-decoupled problems is the horizon pinch of higher dimensional black object, where the horizon is pinched to zero size, and hence the deformation cannot be described by the large D effective theory. These pinched horizons are conjectured to have conical geometries close to the pinch. I will talk about my recent study on the large D limit of the conifold geometry.
