The fundamental interactions are often viewed as a direct opposite of many-body phenomena. In this colloquium I will show how embracing the opposite viewpoint allows to shed new light on some of the most difficult problems in theoretical physics. They include microscopics of gravitational interactions, emergence of primordial matter in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC, and our ability to simulate quantum field theory processes ab initio on classical and quantum computers. The two overarching schemes behind these developments are universalities and information, as well as its processing. The talk will conclude with a discussion of outstanding open problems and possible ways to address them.
