QGP tomography through dynamical energy loss formalism

Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP), is a new form of matter, consisting of interacting quarks, antiquarks and gluons, which are no longer confined. It is believed that QGP existed few µs after the Big-Bang, marking the beginning of the universe. Today, QGP is explored through Little Bangs in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions at the LHC (CERN) and RHIC (BNL, USA). By now it is widely accepted that QGP is discovered in these experiments, with the current challenge to understand its properties.

High-pt theory and data are traditionally used to explore high-pt parton interactions with QGP, while QGP bulk properties are explored through low-pt data and corresponding models. However, high-pt probes can also be a powerful tool for inferring bulk QGP properties, as they are sensitive to global QGP parameters. With the goal of developing a multipurpose QGP tomography tool, we developed the dynamical energy loss formalism, and the corresponding fully optimized DREENA numerical framework, which I will overview in the talk. As first steps towards QGP tomography, I will present how we use DREENA framework to: i) differentiate between different energy loss mechanisms, ii) infer the shape of QGP droplet. This research will therefore demonstrate how high-pt theory and data can be used to both infer the nature of high pt-parton medium interactions, and important bulk QGP medium properties.
