In recent years, replica calculations in lower-dimensional models have led to the discovery of replica wormholes, new saddles of the Euclidean gravitational path integral that connect the different replicas. In this talk, I will first introduce the problems that these wormholes pose for a unitary description. I will then proceed to explain how to reconcile replica wormholes with a holographic description, using an approximation scheme proposed by Liu and Vardhan. I will finally present a modification of the previous proposal which can be obtained under mild assumptions on the spectral properties of the Hamiltonian.
