In this general colloquium I will try to explain, hopefully in pedagogical terms, why the recent (purported) discovery of a Higgs boson particle at the LHC collider (at CERN) could be the greatest triumph of Particle Physics ever, while at the same time it wide opens the Pandora box of the cosmological uproar. Particle Physics and Cosmology are essential branches of knowledge working in synergy so as to achieve a complete understanding of the origin and evolution of our Universe, but deep in their guts there remains a longstanding fundamental mismatch between some of their most basic predictions and measurements. The problem amounts to an extremely bizarre, untenable, fine tuning of the parameters of the theory. Such weird situation leads us to believe that something really profound and utterly crucial escapes our current understanding. The conundrum has been going on (with different levels of intensity and of physical significance) for almost a century, and remains unsolved. Not only so, we suspect that at present it might have even worsened more than ever. Subtle is the Lord, indeed, for there must finally be a natural connection between the quantum field/string theory vacuum and the cosmological vacuum, from which we can eventually explain the value and the origin of the cosmological term in Einstein's field equations. Otherwise, a new theoretical paradigm, of even major significance, is eagerly awaiting us.
