Tensor Networks get frustrated

Tensor networks provide a natural coding of quantum states that carry area-law entanglement. The standard candidates for tensor networks are those based on maximally entangle pairs, including Matrix Product States (MPS) and Projected Entangled Pairs States (PEPS). Yet, this underlying structure does not capture in a simple way the properties of frustrated systems. We here introduce the concept of tensor networks based on triangular simplices, which inherently encode frustration at a microscopic level. We also analyse the scaling of entanglement on frustrated systems.
