For the first time in history, precise measurements of changes in length and time turn general relativity from an impediment to be corrected for into a tool that teaches us about stellar structure and evolution and about underground structures on Earth. LIGO - Virgo events are mapping the gravitational wave sky while optical atomic clocks define the kg, the metre and the second, and can be used to map underground structure. I will talk about what we have learned from gravitational wave events, and what is left to be done in an era when gravitational wave detections are expected every day. Both gravitational waves and very precise clocks can provide potential constraints on alternative theories of gravity, on the size of dark matter clouds around compact objects, and on the existence of exotic objects formed from dark matter particles like boson stars and soliton stars.
