In 2021, a collaboration of leading universities and research institutes in the Barcelona region, including the University of Barcelona (UB), announced the launch of a new Master in Quantum Science and Technology (MQST) in Barcelona. The program, aimed at graduates in physics, physical engineering or equivalent degrees who want to continue specialization studies in quantum science and technologies, gives access to cutting-edge theoretical and experimental research in the fields of quantum sensing, communication, computing and simulation. It likewise promotes direct connections to industry through the QuantumCAT community and the participation of high-tech companies in the teaching program, focusing on the future integration of students in both academic and industrial sectors.

Friday September 9th marked both the graduation of the students in the first year of the MQST and the inauguration of its second edition. UB Prof Bruno Julia, coordinator of the MQST reflected, "This Master’s program is the result of a coordinated effort by the whole quantum community in Catalonia and we are all extremely happy and proud of both our students and lecturers. We have all worked together to make this first edition of the Master successful. Today, we look forward to the new adventures of the second promotion while we wish the very best for the careers of our fantastic newly graduated students".

The ICCUB’s active participation in this Master illustrates the institute’s leadership in the international quantum ecosystem. Training of the next generation of scientists and technologists is an integral part of the institute’s mission and will also help to support the growth, leadership and innovation potential for the future of quantum technologies in Europe.
