It has been claimed recently that new physics in the neutrino sector -- in particular, massive sterile neutrinos -- could bring about a new concordance between different cosmological observations. If true, this would have profound implications for both cosmology and particle physics. In a paper soon to be published in Physical Review Letters, Licia Verde (ICC) and collaborators from UCL , demonstrate that this apparent concordance results from combining datasets which are in significant tension, possibly indicating remaining systematic biases in the measurements. If this tension does not resolve after investigation of such biases, new physics beyond massive neutrinos will be necessary to reconcile these datasets.
