The team, which includes researchers at Besançon Observatory (France) and the University of Barcelona, was led by the ICC researcher Roger Mor. The team analyzed the Gaia second data release DR2 and found a burst in the disc 2 to 3 Gyr ago.
They published their results earlier this month in the "Astronomy & Astrophysics" journal, and it was higlighted in Nature Research Highlights.
Mor explained to the news agency Europapress. It has also gained attention in other internationals channel platforms such as IFLscience and Science Daily.
